Build It. Don't Use It.
(But will they?)

The best of both worlds is within Obama's power:
Authorize the construction, but not the use.

Ignore calls for obstruction while invoking a truce
With those who aren't bothered by Exxon's Mayflower

But claim their sole concern is creating more jobs
Although not with the expectation of immense tar sands blobs.
And won't acknowledge Big Oil is prone to much bigger leaks
As it drills deeper and horizontally with the same old techniques

For preventing big blowouts like that huge BP goof,
That should not have occurred, no way, no how,
If they hadn't cut corners to increase their profits,
A corporate strategy they now disavow?

They did it at sea and they'll do it on land.
Ignoring warning signs is part of the Oil Mafia brand.
The tar sands they're transporting aren't their usual crude
And have a disaster potential of a new magnitude.

Crossing our heartlands and main sources of water,
Have they rechecked their welds as many times as they oughter?
Have they buried their mistakes making them harder to find?
Is their attitude still, "Oh, never mind..."?
