Bunning, Bayh and Dodd
The Senate's Pariah Problem

Jim Bunning of Kentucky
seemed to have the honor won,
Cursing fellow Senators?
    "F*** Harry's unearned run"?

The "Pariah of the Senate" medal
    seemingly was his.
But too old to do his steroids,
he's like a Coke without much fizz.

Is it the fact both Bayh and Dodd
    still are in the running
That necessitates such vehemence
    from Hall of Famer Bunning?

Bayh tires in the late innings –
the majors are too much for him.
All agree he's better off
    piddling in the local gym.

But Bayh's discourteous goodbyes
    boosted his pariah ranking,
Putting him right up there with
the bailouts on which Dodd is banking.

Dodd can't resist his final chance
    to water down finance reform,
Imitating Robert Rubin's
scheme for riding out the storm.

First he'll make the Fed the fall guy;
    Bernanke's more than willing.
Then to get the bill past Bunning,
dump that has-been for Curt Schilling.
