"Can Guns Be Painless?"

(Can sex changes?)

What kind of "Good Guy" do I have to be
Not to be laid low by friend of foe?
Should I own? Should I carry? Should I pack?
I've Googled, I've friended, I've hashtagged and still don't know.

Some who have had their ownership publicized
Have conniptions, have squawked and felt compromised.
But detectives put signs in our windows to say we're protected.
No one wants that window news to go undetected.

One theory is, robbers who make a dry run,
Spot and avoid houses with a sign or a gun.
So where does that leave those "Good Guys" like me?
Without a sign? Without a gun? Come on in, it's for free?

So I buy the sign, and, of course, the service with it.
Detective recommends we also locksmith it.
Says he hasn't fired his weapon in ages.
His help doesn't sound willing or that advantageous.

Robbers arrived! Scared him to Hell. Of course he stayed put…
And still they shoot. No one's kaput. But it costs me a foot.

And I still don't want to own a damn weapon, Wayne.
I'm warned that lead vepors are a threat at target ranges.
Where that foot was? Well, I still feel a pain,
Though not like Uncle Jim/Auntie Em's, from "her" sex changes…
