Daddy Liked Ike
A disenchanted Republican sings with Johnny Cash to his tune
"Daddy Sang Bass"
(Daddy sang bass. Momma sang tenor.)

When I was young, Republicans
    were folks that you admired,
Who, like us, would vote for Willkie
    over FDR.
They'd be pretty damn well off –
which is what we were –
Be living very comfortably,
    address their seniors as sir,
Could afford a family doctor
and would own a second car…

Daddy liked Ike,
Momma liked Willkie.
Me and little brother admired Dick Nixon,
hating it when John Dean got him fired.
But look how bad things have gotten since –
Boehner? Palin? Makes us wince.
Can you imagine them
with Mike and Lou in charge
Of finance at the RNC,
Where Wolfgang Puck caters humble pie?

Daddy liked Ike,
Momma liked Willkie.
Me and little brother liked Tricky Dick,
And Wolfgang Puck wasn't doing pie.
