Fond Memories Of Old Alberta
(Remember that great bitumen aroma?)

Soon they'll be back to the old horse and buggy.
Dirt roads are too hard on today's automobiles.
They've let Big Oil – BP, Exxon and Shell –
strip and export their asphalt highways.
Now they must pretend that six-stallion carriages aren't really big deals.

Too bad if you're a person who is not enamored
With the clatter of horses hooves on a dusty dirt road,
Who longs for the silence of stretch limousines
Those relics of the past when traffic, relatively quietly, ebbed and flowed.

When horse manure didn't clutter the street,
And nobody worried where they were putting their feet.
Those days are gone; they've left us; we're back
To reminiscing that bitumen and asphalt were normally black.
So if you slipped in the street, your fanny also was black.
