Petropolitics In Alberta
(Democracy be damned)

Oil prices up? Watch democracy suffer.
Incumbents cut taxes to buy themselves votes.
The First Law of any state's petropolitics is
Down with transparency. No more rocking the boat.

No public discussions. Policy's cast in lead.
No opposition. What's to say has been said.
Keep the party in power. Don't admit we've screwed up.
Ignore bad reactions. "All is on the up and up."

Don't call it "pollution". "Emissions" sounds better.
They can be twisted for a positive slant.
"Too busy" to have taken corrective action?
Never admit we don't know how, or that we can't.

No energy policy? Expand will nilly!
Man-made climate change? That would be silly.
Worry about terrorists? Aren't they all on the run?
Pass a new gun law so everyone owns a gun.
