The Khazzoom-Brookes Postulate
(Alberta screws future generations with the cleanup costs)

Steal from our children? Buy more efficient cars?
So you've one or two standbys, at least, and drive many more miles?
Who'd buy a house with a one car garage?
More efficiency, more cars, and much grander life styles.

Economists call this the Khazzoom-Brookes Postulate:
"Increase in efficiency leads to more consumption, not less."
Politicians like Ed Stelmach can't comprehend this.
That more mining and upgrader projects result in more mess.

So be irresponsible like Alberta's premier?
Eddie Stelmach assures us we have nothing to fear.
Megatons of carbon released in the air?
"Tiny, insignificant." Why should he care?

Outweighing small efficiencies he's hoping will come,
What to do in the meantime but approve more polluting projects
    and twiddle his thumb?
In the name of progress they'll screw all our kids.
Who'll build the next dirty upgraders? Let's hear some bids!
