John Wilkes Booths
Remembering James Whitcomb Riley's tribute to
"Little Orphant Annie"
(Little Orphant Annie's come to our home to stay,)

The President is worried about who's announced today,
Especially about those things Obama didn't say.
Things he's merely hinted at, like who'd be put to sleep,
Like some might do with extra kitty cats they couldn't keep.

Is he suggestin' that's a way to get more bus'ness done
An' keep more wars from startin' because of some end run
With more manufactured rumors that Bush bandies about,
If a John Wilkes Booth don't stop him
    'fore the word gets out?

Once there was a Shah by whom the CIA set store,
By helpin' him spend money in case there was a war,
Dough none of them figured he should spend on Sunday schools,
Playin' by what Cheney says were Halliburton rules.

But they hadn't calculated on a hostile Muslim press,
The pow'r of pray'r and lack of pow'r of presidents, I guess,
Whose CIA manipulators didn't have the clout
Of a John Wilkes Booth to stop 'em
    'fore the word got out.

The world is full of John Wilkes Booths who could be doin' more,
Cuttin' down the incidence of pestilence and war.
A Noriega, Hugo Chavez, Kim Jung Il, you name it,
What better way than John Wilkes Booths to pacify and tame it?

So why start small with TV drug ads, then on to politicians?
Runnin' to the john sure beats these two year competitions.
For shorter presidential runs, who could we do without
If a John Wilkes Booth could stop 'em
    'fore their words got out?
